THE FIFTH COMMANDMENT

Exodus 20:12

• The fifth commandment is the first of the horizontal commandments.
• Our parents are worthy of honor.
• We are also expected, as parents, to be good examples to our children.
• Jesus followed this commandment, and He set an example for us to follow.
• Mark 7:5-13
• Traditions of men don’t change the commandments of God.
• We should honor our parents, even if they did “a bad job.”
• We are bound to this commandment because
  • Jesus set the example for us to follow – John 2:4
  • It summons us to honor, respect, and care for our parents – Ephesians 6:1-4
• Parents are also called to BE honorable!
