“Discipleship, the Legacy of Christ Lives On” (Part 3)

“Treasure for a Troubled Heart”

John 14:1-4

I. (1) “Convinced of the Christ”

II. (2-3) “Convinced of the Comfort”

III. (4) “Convinced of the Certainty”

Today we will look at part three of Discipleship and the Legacy of Christ. Again, these verses are recorded in the moments that Christ intentionally separated Himself and His closest few for some special lessons in discipleship before His departure. Therefore, one can understand the disciples’ distress and the need for Christ to address those troubled hearts.

As we come to the third part of this series of sermons, today we will consider some very important things concerning a disciple of Christ. So imperative that I consider them to be great “treasures” to a follower of Christ! Have you discovered lately how quickly your heart becomes “troubled” at the slightest hint of trouble? In addition, have you also noticed how quickly that troubled heart is calmed at the moment you replace whatever is troubling you with the truth of God in Christ? We all have to deal with troubles, fear, doubt, anxiety, and unrest at different times throughout our lives. Hey! We live in a broken world don’t we? Along those same precepts is what Christ was sharing in today’s text and prayerfully with the help of the Holy Spirit will be sharing with us today!

(Sermon Series) “Discipleship, the Legacy of Christ Lives On” (Part 2)

“The Glory of It All”

John 13:31-35

I. (31-32) “The Splendor of Knowing the Savior”

II. (33-34) “The Splendor of Experiencing Salvation”

III. (35) “The Splendor of a Redeemed Sinner”

We are continuing our look into the last few hours that Jesus spent with His closest disciples before His death. Again, these were very precious moments as it is when any of us have only a few hours before someone’s departure. In these moments as the Gospel’s record, we are given some special instructions as to true discipleship that foster’s the precious legacy of Christianity. Even more so, the legacy a Gloriously Precious Savior.

Today we are going to consider that in life we humans often seek many ways in which to become “great”, “glorious”, or “magnificent”. However, the Bible gives us a clear and distinctive understanding as well as an example of how to live a glorious life. Living a “glorious life” has a lot to do with some understanding of “The Glory of It All”. That is what Jesus is going to teach us today.

(Sermon Series) – “Discipleship, the Legacy of Christ Lives On” (Part 1)

“The Uncommon Good of Genuine Discipleship”

John 13:1-17

I. (1-2) “Uncommon Love”

II. (3-5) “Uncommon Leadership”

III. (6-11) “Uncommon Living”

IV. (12-17) “Uncommon Life”

As we begin this brand new series of sermons, we have the great privilege to look into a special moment for a select group. These verses are recorded in the moments that Christ intentionally separated Himself and His closest few for some special lessons in discipleship before His departure. These few were given special insight as to the role that they were to play after He returned to His Father in Heaven. In His absence, they were to be the one’s who would carry on the greatest legacy known to man, namely Christianity.

Jesus Christ is indeed alive today, walking in the world in the bodies of those whom He has called and those who have accepted that call. Yet being a disciple of Jesus Christ is more than just “being saved”, it is an ongoing lifelong lesson in being Jesus Christ to the world. It has its high moment’s and has its low moment’s as well. Nevertheless, we have been given an example as well as a great help. The example is Jesus Christ, and the help is the Holy Spirit. In the next few weeks, let us together examine how we measure up to these important lessons of discipleship. In addition, apply what we learn for the cause of our Savior and His Kingdom.

Fanning the Flames (Part 1) – “Kingdom Distinction” – Luke 22:24-30

I. (24-26) “Worldly Deception and Kingdom Perception”

II. (27) “Kingdom Excellence and Example”

III. (28-30) “Kingdom People of Promise”

Sometimes we Christians need to fan the flames of our passion and love for Jesus Christ, His Kingdom and His will for us here on earth, as we journey through this world. This morning and this evening’s services are going to focus briefly on this subject. This morning we should learn that we as humans sometimes misunderstand “greatness” in terms of the human endeavor of life and more specifically in connection with accomplishments, status, and rank. Even the most seasoned and mature Christians sometimes need to be reminded that we are a part of God’s Kingdom and should be aware that we are here for His pre-determined purposes. Therefore, that distinguishes us from the world’s system in our decision-making and goal’s, or it should.

“Facing Discouragement, God’s Way”

Habakkuk 1:1-4 & 3:17-19

I. (1:1-4) “The Reason’s for Discouragement”

II. (3:17) “The Reality of Discouragement”

III. (3:18-19) “The Remedy for Discouragement”

Do you know of a Christian that is discouraged? Chances are that you do and there is a likelihood you may be a Christian that has become discouraged! Discouragement is something that is very real and has an effect that touches more people than just ourselves. It most often prospers because of “not knowing” or not being made aware that something can be done about it! Therefore, in most cases, we just accept it as part of life when this is NOT true! In other words, God has given us ways to face our discouragement and say good-bye to it and hello to joy!

Today we are going to look at the prophet Habakkuk and how God helped him deal with the crippling power of discouragement.

“Remembering the Ransom”

I Corinthians 11: 23-26

I. (23) “The Betrayal”

II. (24) “The Body”

III. (25) “The Blood”

IV. (26) “The Blessing”

The Lord understands our nature perfectly and He knows that our memory tends to be a light sleeper. He knows that a Believer’s memory will awaken to His slightest knock. Sometimes just a measure of music or a song, a familiar fragrance, maybe a scraped letter, or a little shoe, and the past is instantly remembered.

Spiritual matters are not immune to the vanishing act of our memory either. Therefore, therein is the need for this service today, for us followers of Christ to remember the incredible act that only One person alone could perform to purchase and eternally secure the payment for a hopeless people such as you and I!

“Under New Management”

Romans 6:1-11

One of the greatest things to understand about salvation in Jesus Christ is that when it occurs, there is an obvious change in us in many ways. This happens in the beginning by changing us on the inside, theologically speaking we call this sanctification. Yet soon after the new Owner comes in it becomes obvious to almost everybody around us, that we are under new management. For this New Owner is God Himself! Today we are going to examine this change in three angles and prayerfully gain an understanding of how awesome it is to be one of the redeemed!

1. (1-4) “The New Ownership”

2. (5-7) “The New Outlook”

3. (8-11) “The New Outcome”
